Monthly Posts – Farmer’s Market

Hi everyone,

This past weekend was a three day weekend for me. We didn’t have school on Monday because it was Buddha Day. So I had something to do. But my favorite thing that I did over the three day weekend was going to Farmer’s Market. So on Saturday, I went to the farmer’s market right up the street from my house. It was a pretty hot day but it wasn’t too bad. So it was pretty early, around 8:10am when we got there. We just walked around to see what they had to offer, but we were mainly looking for lemons.

After looking around, we tried to find the lemons. Thank god we found them, they were some nice lemons though. Then we looked around some more. I wanted some lemonade to drink, and I found the stand. Where I got the lemonade was ‘Nalo made Lemonade (Waimanalo, HI). I first got their Orginal in a jar for $7. It was kind of expensive, but the jar was pretty big. Then I finished that and before we left, I got a refill for only $4. Instead of getting the same thing, I got strawberry lemonade. It was really good, it was on the sweeter side.

I also got this sausage that is like a milder version of portuguese sausage. I had it on a stick and it was good. I put a little bit of ketchup. Then I got a chocolate covered banana which was really good, but messy. It was really busy so I needed to be aware of my surroundings.  I am glad that I went because I haven’t been there for a while and it was a good day to go.

Monthly Posts – Movies with Friends

Hi everyone,

So last week, I went to the movies with some friends. I was with the twins, Jojo, and Mari. We asked Kailey if she could come but she couldn’t because she had practice, and then we asked Chloe, but she couldn’t come too. So it was just the 5 of us. We watched 5 Feet Apart. I think most of us started to cry or started to tear up. I was almost late so Mari’s mom waited for me to come, and then she left. So the twin’s mom watched the movie us. We got ICEE’S and popcorn. Mari secretly brought kakimochi. Then we went into the theater. We had reclining seats which were very nice and comfortable.

Then the movie started. It was a really good, interesting, exciting, and sad movie. If you didn’t watch the movie and want to watch it, you can skip this but one of the characters die, and it’s really sad. I think most of us cried during that part. I was like balling when that character died. Anyways, the movie was really good and I wish I stayed to the end. I had to leave early because I had a rehearsal for a celebration dance of life. So I had to leave during the movie to make the rehearsal at 2:00pm.

The reason why we watched the movie was because Mari said it was a good movie and everyone wanted to watch it. She explained what it was about and gave a little background information. Now I really wanted to watch it and I’m glad I did. So we planned to watch it that weekend to watch it together. We decided to watch it at Ward Theater.  I wish everyone was there because then we would have more fun together. But at least I got to watch the movie with some friends. I had a lot of fun and I hope we can do this again.

Monthly Posts – OPIHI Field Trip

Hi everyone,

This post I guess I would consider a part 2 to my other post POL. Anyways, today I will be explaining about OPIHI in more detail. This field trip was so much fun. We went to Sand Island Beach Park. Luckily, there weren’t strong waves, but there were small ones here and there. There 6 eighth graders and three teachers who went on the trip with us. Those eighth graders helped us collect data, help us identifying the algae, and they took pictures. Those pictures were for POL on Friday. They used i-pads and when we saw the slideshow, the pictures came pretty clear.

Anyways, back to the actual field trip, we were in a group of three. Those groups that we were in were also for a mock trial of this field trip. Our teacher made a mock trial to prepare us for what we are supposed to do on this field trip. When we got to Sand Island, we had to walk in the sand with shoes. It was hard to walk and sand got into our shoes which were kind of annoying. So when we found where we’re supposed to “camp out”, we set everything up. Then we measured the distance for each group. Once we were done my partner and I went out into the ocean while the other partner watched waves. We were supposed to go to knee-high, which we did.

Then we started to collect data. First, we were supposed to measure every 1 meter, and then find algae around that meter. Then I was to record what we think the type of algae is. It was a hot but nice day. Then when we finished that, we were to do the transect, where we measure so many half meters, then we put a square with wire that creates squares. Then we look through each square and record what we see. I almost feel twice, one getting down to the ocean and one losing my balance in the ocean. But I was okay. Since we were ahead, we were allowed to help the other groups who needed help. That’s when I got wetter since it was getting later in the morning, the tide got higher. Since it was getting higher, Jenny and I got our shorts wet. That was a really fun field trip and I wish I could do it again.

Monthly Posts – Presentation of Learning (POL)

Hi everyone,

So today was POL (Presentation of Learning). If you don’t know what that is, it’s just when each grade level chooses something to educate their parents about. So this year, as 7th graders, we did OPIHI. We just had a field trip about OPIHI. We were split into 6 teams, with 3 people in each. That group was to prepare for OPIHI and also for the field trip. It was fun because we went to Sand Island and did what we’re supposed to do. We went into the water to knee-high level and then we did the measurements and data collecting.

The groups that we’re in at the field trip was the groups that we were split into. We got to choose what we wanted to talk about for the presentation. We choose safety. It was pretty easy because there was a basket that was filled with things that we needed just in case someone got hurt or needed something. We just explained what these items were used and why they are important.

Every group had different things to talk about, so Jojos’ group needed help with their assignment. She was doing algae sample identification. So we had samples collected from Sand Island and her group was supposed to try to identify them. She needed help so I asked Mrs. W and she said it was okay to help them out. So after preparing for my group, the others did it while I helped present and identify Jojo’s group. So this time I was like in two groups. I think this would be my favorite year doing POL.
