SBC Week 10: Reflection

Hi everyone,

This is the last week of SBC. So today I will be writing a reflection. There are some questions and I have to ask a parent/relative.

  1. How many weeks of the challenge did you participate in?   I have started with challenge 3 and then progressed. I actually started with the first post called “My Message.”
  2. How many posts did you write in the ten week period? I have written 10 in all.
  3.  How many comments did you receive from classmates, teachers, or other visitors?  I have received 5 comments.
  4. Which post did you enjoy writing the most and why? I enjoyed writing “Trimester One Portfolio” because I was able to show the work that I am proud of and why. I felt proud because I felt like I accomplished a lot in the time I started school.
  5. Which web tools did you use to show creativity on your blog? I used Creative Commons and my own photos.
  6. What are your plans for your blog now? Will you keep posting? I will post here and there because I know I will be busy over Winter break but I hope that I will be able to post on my trip to Japan. I also know that we will have a ton of homework that will be handed every day.

Asking my grandparent

  1. What were your first impressions of this blog? – My grandpa said it looked very professional.
  2. What captured your attention? – The Student Blogging Challenge Logo on the right side.
  3. What distracted you on the blog? – The font size is too small to read and look at while scrolling through the blog.
  4. What suggestions can you give me to improve my blog? – If I could be able to fix my font and font size of my header page. It’s too small and the style could be more appealing.

That’s all for today,

SBC Week 9: Coding

Hi everyone,

Today I will be reviewing one of the coding games. The game is called Code Avengers. You will have to go through a series of tasks of coding. A restaurant wants to use a robot to do jobs, we need to code the robot to do the tasks that the owner wants it to do. There are instructions that tell what to do, but they don’t give exact numbers all the time. That’s when you need to figure out what you’re going to put. I had to code the pen in this case to write the letter “F” and “A”. If you don’t know how to put the correct labels in the spot, there is this lightbulb in the bottom right-hand corner. It’s kind of hard unless it’s just me because I don’t code on a daily base.

But I kind of got the hang of it. It’s really cool that the computer follows what you put down, so if it makes a mistake, you will need to fix. There are 5 tasks to finish. The “F” “A” is the sign for the restaurant. After you finish task 1, there will be a mini quiz about how many times you need to rotate 90 degrees and move 350 pixels. That was from the last task that you had to do to complete task 1. In task 2, there are more codes you need to put in at times. One of the codes is called, “Repeat ____ times” is a tool that will make your code repeat as many times that is needed.

In section 2, you will have to fix a traffic jam. The robot will have to make the cars go the right way so that there are no crashes. You will have to create lines to make the two lanes. The cars are supposed to follow them because well, that’s the rule when you drive. I thought that this game was very interesting even though I didn’t play on it for too long. We were instructed to on a game for at least 5 minutes. I’m glad that I was able to understand a little bit more about how to code what coding does.

That’s all for today,

SBC Week 8: Family Celebrations; Christmas Brunch

Hi everyone,

So today, I will be talking about one of the celebrations that my family and I celebrate together. It’s Christmas Brunch. Every year, we all meet up at Orchids at Halekulani. If you’re wondering what Orchids at Halekulani is, it’s a restaurant located in Halekulani. Halekulani is a hotel located in Waikiki by the beach. The view of the ocean is so amazing. The restaurant is located right next to the ocean. So you can hear the ocean waves and smell the salty air. You could just walk right out and the ocean will be right there. But the bad thing is that it is an open concept. Which means that they don’t use A.C., they use fans and the breeze. It means that the flies are around, so you need to watch out for the flies. But the place is so amazing. The food over there is so good and plus, there is a buffet of different types of food there.

There is sushi, salad, turkey, ham, roast beef, roasted pig, popovers, omelet bar, fruits, desserts, and much more. Usually, my eyes are bigger than my stomach. Orchids have a wide selection for breakfast. Their breakfast menu has Japanese and American breakfast. The best thing about Christmas Brunch is, being able to see everyone at once. We hardly ever see each other unless it’s a family gathering. But sometimes I hang out with my cousin who is about 6 months younger than me.

There is also an ice cream bar. Oh boy, that’s one of the best parts. In the freezer, there is a wide selection of flavors of ice cream and they also have another table filled with all different kind of toppings. When it’s Christmas, there is this beautiful tree by the fireplace. It’s so amazing. We all take family pictures by it and the tree is decorated with many ornaments. My dad’s 3 other siblings take pictures with their own family. Then my dad siblings and he take pictures together and then all of the grandchildren take a picture. Christmas isn’t always about the presents, it’ about being with loved ones, having fun together, and most importantly, spending quality time as a family.

That’s all for today,

SBC Week 7: Performing Arts

Hi everyone,

So today I will be talking about one of the things I love to do, it’s performing arts. I just fell in love with it about 2 years ago. I guess I started to love it because, in third grade, we did Winnie Pooh. It was pretty fun. I had some lines, hair, a costume, and of course make-up. Either when I was in second going to third or when I was in third going to fourth, I did a performing type of thing. It wasn’t a play, but we sang and danced to many songs. The group that I joined was Ohana Arts. Co-founders Jenny Taira, Cari Taira, and Laurie Rubin have envisioned a place in Hawaii for youth to have high-quality training and performing opportunities with high;y accomplished and successful artists around the country. They aren’t lying, that was the most fun I had when I performed.

We sang songs and danced to it. But what was cooler was that there was a real band playing instead of the tape. It was so much fun! The second reason why I decided to love performing arts is because of my cousin. I would see her plays either at diamond Theatre or Mid-Pacific Institute. 2 summers ago, I was in another production called Honk Jr.! That was one of the most memorable summers ever. Even though this past summer, in my opinion, was way better. Anyways, Honk Jr.! was directed by Swaine Kaui. He is an amazing director. He has directed the past 4 plays and the play that I’m in right now. Besides Honk Jr.! he has also directed Aladdin Jr., Cinderella, Once On This Island Jr. and right now High School Musical.

High School Musical is going pretty well. The songs are coming along really well. I feel that I am getting better at dancing. I was never that great at dancing but I feel that I got a little better this past summer in Once On This Island Jr. and in High School Musical, there are harder moves to do. This is my well second school production. Honk Jr. and Once On This Island Jr. was a summer production called Stage Left. The many reasons why I love performing arts is because,

  1. It’s just so much fun, becoming a family and getting to know each other more.
  2. I love to sing, dance, and act.
  3. I love that we go through rehearsals because then we can see that we’re getting the staging and dances cleaner.
  4. When we perform, we are proud of all of our hard work.
  5. That feeling when I perform. I don’t know how to explain it. It’s like adrenaline and excitement.

That’s all for today,

Final Post of the School Year!

Hi, it’s me hmsshayann. Wow, this is the last post of my time as a 6th grader! This year was so amazing, going into middle school and learning about Edublogs and more!

1. What you enjoyed the most this school year

What I enjoyed the most this school year was going into Middle School. I really enjoyed feeling older. I mean just because I’m in a different building than the elementary, but encountering different things. Like the new teachers, new schedule, new students, and homework. Meeting the new teachers was cool. I now have 4 teachers instead of 2 and all of my teachers are truly amazing. I couldn’t do it without all of them. The classes are different but they are fun. This year was special because I got to be in Middle School with the people I knew since like pre-k or kindergarten. But I also got to meet new students. I think this was an amazing year. But some students are moving. But it will still be a great year, but we can’t forget about them. They were a big part of my life and I will never forget them.

2. What you would have changed if you could redo this school year

If I could redo this school year it would be in trimester 1, 2, 3. I would like to redo these trimesters because, for the choice electives, I really enjoyed them. For trimester 1 we got to go to Make – Wish – Hawaii, which was cool. In trimester 2, we got to make costumes for the school play which was Cinderella Jr. In trimester 3, we got to do block printing. It was so cool and I wish I could do it again. They were so much fun and I was grateful to do amazing things for my class and many more. I hope this coming up year will be as amazing as this past year was. These past 3 trimesters were amazing and I can’t wait for what next rimesters bring!

3. What you’re looking forward to next school year

What I’m looking forward to next year are the new 6th graders. Some of them I know and I’m good friends with. Also, if there are new students in my class, I can’t wait for who comes. I can’t wait to see my friends again after summer if I’m not able to see them in the summer. I’m going to miss some of the people who are moving. It’s not going to the same without them. But I can’t wait for what the year brings and I hope it’s amazing. I also can’t wait for what 7th grade brings and I know it will be hard but it will still be fun and another that I can’t forget.

Until then, bye

SBC Week 10 – Farewell!

Hi, it’s me hmsshayann, and today I will be answering some questions that have been asked for this weeks SBC. I can’t believe this might be the last SBC for my time as a 6th – grader.

Part 1 –

  1. How many posts did I do, well I did 20 posts counting this one that I’m doing right now. I have 8 school-based blogs. There are 10 blogs that are my own interests. How I could improve my posts in the future is to add more featured images to my posts.
  2. I’ve received 4 comments in all and I’ve replied to all of the comments. There was 1 person that I Didn’t know but she commented, and there are 3 classmates that commented. The blog that received the most comments was SCB Week 9: My Bucket List. I think it got the most comments because I thought that the people who commented on that blog had some of the same interests.
  3. I visited about 10 -15 other blogs. One of them was Clarie Louise’s Fantabulous Blog. The reason why I visited her blog because, we had some similar interests, and her blog was so cool to look at. It was eye-catching to me.
  4. The post that I enjoyed the most was SBC Week 9: My Bucket List because it was fun to see what I wanted to before I die. That way if anyone comments, maybe there is something that we have in common. It was cool to realize that there is a lot of things that I want to do.
  5. I didn’t change any blog themes because I liked what I have and, I thought it was nice to me.
  6. I have 5 widgets. I think have enough widgets because I think 5 is good enough. I think it’s enough to learn about other bloggers.
  7. There are 3 people overseas in my blogroll.
  8. I used google images.

Part 2 –

  1. My parent first impression was it looks professional. My dad said, how did I create this. Asked if I used a template.
  2. What captured his attention was the background of my blog. It was colorful. There were balloons in different colors. It was from the movie Up.
  3. What distracted him was the format of how my blogs were set up on the home page. When he read the blog, the grammar was thrown off. He didn’t know that there were bullet points. Until he clicked on the title, then it expanded to show the full blog.
  4. Doubble check my grammar, little make it more detailed, use different words, expand my words, and quickly respond to the comments as fast or quickly as I can.

Until then, bye
