SBC Week 7: Performing Arts

Hi everyone,

So today I will be talking about one of the things I love to do, it’s performing arts. I just fell in love with it about 2 years ago. I guess I started to love it because, in third grade, we did Winnie Pooh. It was pretty fun. I had some lines, hair, a costume, and of course make-up. Either when I was in second going to third or when I was in third going to fourth, I did a performing type of thing. It wasn’t a play, but we sang and danced to many songs. The group that I joined was Ohana Arts. Co-founders Jenny Taira, Cari Taira, and Laurie Rubin have envisioned a place in Hawaii for youth to have high-quality training and performing opportunities with high;y accomplished and successful artists around the country. They aren’t lying, that was the most fun I had when I performed.

We sang songs and danced to it. But what was cooler was that there was a real band playing instead of the tape. It was so much fun! The second reason why I decided to love performing arts is because of my cousin. I would see her plays either at diamond Theatre or Mid-Pacific Institute. 2 summers ago, I was in another production called Honk Jr.! That was one of the most memorable summers ever. Even though this past summer, in my opinion, was way better. Anyways, Honk Jr.! was directed by Swaine Kaui. He is an amazing director. He has directed the past 4 plays and the play that I’m in right now. Besides Honk Jr.! he has also directed Aladdin Jr., Cinderella, Once On This Island Jr. and right now High School Musical.

High School Musical is going pretty well. The songs are coming along really well. I feel that I am getting better at dancing. I was never that great at dancing but I feel that I got a little better this past summer in Once On This Island Jr. and in High School Musical, there are harder moves to do. This is my well second school production. Honk Jr. and Once On This Island Jr. was a summer production called Stage Left. The many reasons why I love performing arts is because,

  1. It’s just so much fun, becoming a family and getting to know each other more.
  2. I love to sing, dance, and act.
  3. I love that we go through rehearsals because then we can see that we’re getting the staging and dances cleaner.
  4. When we perform, we are proud of all of our hard work.
  5. That feeling when I perform. I don’t know how to explain it. It’s like adrenaline and excitement.

SBC Week 6: A-Z Science Words and Definitions

Hi everyone, it’s hmsshayann

Today, I will create a A-Z list of different science words and their definitions.

A – Asteroid: a small rocky body orbiting the sun.

B – Big Bang: the rapid expansion of matter from a state of extremely high density and temperature that according to current cosmological theories marked the origin of the universe.

C – Crater: a large, bowl-shaped cavity in the ground or on the surface of a planet or the moon

D – Drag: Effect of an atmosphere that slows a spacecraft and forces its orbit to decay.

E – Earth: The third of the four terrestrial planets counting out from the Sun. The distance between the Earth and the Sun is 1 astronomical unit (about 150 million km).

F – Frequency: the rate at which something occurs or is repeated over a particular period of time or in a given sample.

G – Galaxy: a system of millions or billions of stars, together with gas and dust, held together by gravitational attraction.

H – Heliosphere: the region of space, encompassing the solar system, in which the solar wind has a significant influence.

I – Imager: an electronic or other device that records images of something.

J – Jupiter: fifth planet from the Sun and the largest in the Solar System.

K – Kuiper Belt: a region of the solar system beyond the orbit of Neptune, believed to contain many comets, asteroids, and other small bodies made largely of ice.

L – Light: the natural agent that stimulates sight and makes things visible.

M – Mass: a coherent, typically large body of matter with no definite shape.

N – Nitrogen: the chemical element of atomic number 7, a colorless, odorless unreactive gas that forms about 78 percent of the earth’s atmosphere.

O – Orbit: the curved path of a celestial object or spacecraft around a star, planet, or moon, especially a periodic elliptical revolution.

P – Plasma: the colorless fluid part of blood, lymph, or milk, in which corpuscles or fat globules are suspended.

Q – Quark: any of a number of subatomic particles carrying a fractional electric charge, postulated as building blocks of the hadrons.

R – Radiation: the emission of energy as electromagnetic waves or as moving subatomic particles, especially high-energy particles that cause ionization.

S – Star: a fixed luminous point in the night sky that is a large, remote incandescent body like the sun.

T – Telescope: an optical instrument designed to make distant objects appear nearer, containing an arrangement of lenses, or of curved mirrors and lenses, by which rays of light are collected and focused and the resulting image magnified

U – Universe: all existing matter and space considered as a whole; the cosmos.

V –  Volt: the SI unit of electromotive force, the difference of potential that would drive one ampere of current against one ohm resistance.

W – Watt: the SI unit of power, equivalent to one joule per second, corresponding to the power in an electric circuit in which the potential difference is one volt and the current one ampere.

X –  X-ray: an electromagnetic wave of high energy and very short wavelength, which is able to pass through many materials opaque to light

Y – Yttrium: the chemical element of atomic number 39.

Z – Zonal Wind: flow is a meteorological term regarding atmospheric circulation following a general flow pattern along latitudinal lines, as opposed to meridional flow along longitudinal lines

Trimester One Portfolio

Hi everyone,

Today I will be showing you four pieces of my work form trimester one that I’m proud of. Some of the work will come from one class.

Language Arts:

I Went Without Project

I’m proud of this project for Language Arts because it showed me that I’m spending too much time on my phone and I need to cut down.  We needed to go without something for a week. For some of my classmates, it was hard, but for some it is was easy. For me it was hard. I chose to go without Netflix for a week. I love Netflix and my favorite movie is, “To All the Boys I loved Before”, and my favorite T.V show is, “Hawaii 5-0”. So it was hard for me. I watch 5-0 every day if I can. So going without it of a week was hard. But that project allowed me to understand, that I’m on my phone way too much. Either watching something or playing games and there are better things to do then be on my phone.  I chose this project because maybe this will inspire others that you can’t just be hooked on your device all day.

Direction Assignment

I chose this project because I felt that I was pretty descriptive on my instructions. I gave measurements and bolded in the important things that the other person might miss read. So we were given a paper in class, and our teacher told us that she will tell you what to draw. But, you can do it however you wanted and where it was going to be. For example, if she said to draw an oval, you can draw that oval anywhere, any color, and any size. It was all up to you. Then we were to write a set of descriptive instructions. Then she would give our instructions to another student n our class. But were instructed to not put our names. It was quite interesting because some people were so off and some weren’t.

Math:

Ocean Pollution and Marine Debris Project

I’m proud of this project for math because it made me realize that there is a lot of trash the is in the ocean. I worked on this project with hmskeldon. The ocean is home to many animals and coral. If we pollute their home, they will die and there won’t be any signs of their specific type of species. Plus, we won’t be able to have fish to catch or to eat. The fish that we eat can be contaminated with the polluted water that they came from. Oil spills have a lot to do with ocean pollution. The oil will kill and harm the animals and the coral. We need to take more action into cleaning up the beaches because the ocean grabs whatever is on the beach. So if there is a lot of trash on the beach, and the waves can touch it, then the trash will go into the ocean. I chose this project because I feel that others need to understand that Ocean Pollution and Marine Debris is very bad. That we need to stop it and help our oceans.

Social Studies:

Arrival of the Missionaries Poem

I chose this from social studies because I feel that hmsleilani and I worked well on this. I feel that we kind of got the hang of making poems. For me, I find it kind of hard to write poems because it’s hard to find words that rhyme with each other while staying on the topic.  But I find it easier to work with someone because then we can help each other out with finding the right word. Plus, you have someone to talk to and ask them if it sounds right. This poem is about what happened when the sailors came to Hawaii while the Missionaries were in Hawaii. How the sailors tried to burn the church. How the Hawaiian fought back.

SBC Week 5: Two Types of People

Hi everyone,

Today, there will be a slideshow showing the two types of people. For example, if you like the color blue, but another person likes the color pink, then you would comment blue and the other person would comment pink.

Two Types of People

There is the google slide, just click on the link and it will take you to he google slide. Comment down below which type of person you are.
