Monthly Posts – Trimester Three Portfolio

Hi everyone,

Today, I will be showing you my work that I feel that I am very proud of.

Social Studies – Business Project

In social studies, we have been working on business and the aspects of it. So I partnered up with Jenny and we both decided to do Root Beer and Coke Floats and Grab n’ Go. We decided to do root beer and coke because there was another team doing root beer floats, so to make more competition, we had root beer, coke, sprinkles, and whipped cream. The floats were a success, but the Grab n’ Go didn’t do as well. We almost sold out on the floats, ice cream, and whipped cream which was good. Jenny and I worked well together and I really enjoyed doing this project.

Language Arts – IXL Test: Connotation

Sometimes in Language Arts, we have surprise tests. The tests are timed and we have about 15-20 minutes and the IXL is based on what we have been learning. So we have to accomplish as much as we can during the period of time. So this time, I got 100%. Plus this is graded, but it’s not worth too much. I was proud of myself because I got 100% within like 15ish minutes. The IXL was based on positive and negative connotations. Basically, you have two choices and you choose which one is positive or negative. Once you get higher, there are three choices. So I got an A for the test and I felt proud. (Once you master the level, you get a medal, and you can restart to get another medal)

Math – SSAT Basic Geometry Set 4 out of 4 Test

This was an SSAT test and it’s graded work. I was proud because I got a B- on the test, even though it’s worth 1.67% of my grade, I was still proud of myself. We were able to use notes, so I feel that my notes helped me get a B- because, without out those notes, I don’t think I would’ve done the best. I was proud of myself because this actually counted as my grade, and I did a pretty good job considering it’s an SSAT skill. This was set 4 out of the 4 sets that were given. The first three were practice and some were homework. There are 20 questions and some are word problems and some are just questions.

Monthly Posts – My Weekend

Hi everyone,

Today is another monthly post and I will be talking about my past weekend. Now it was interesting because I had to do some X-rays. No, I didn’t break a bone or anything like that (but I fractured my collar bone in 4th grade) but it was for my teeth. Now, this takes place on Saturday. I had to wake up early because we had to drop my aunty at work. Then we got breakfast. I got an Acai Bowl from Lanikai Juice. It was really good and I usually get the Da Classic with extra honey. Then I felt really hungry and craved pancakes too. So we went to McDonald’s to get pancakes. Then we had to go home and eat. After that, we just watched some T.V. and then we had to leave. I had to go to Ala Moana because I had to take X-rays.

The reason is that I am getting braces! I know I shouldn’t be excited because I will regret it but I’m so happy to make sure that I am getting the proper care for my teeth. I have an overbite, which is most normal in cases, but it’s a little too over. So my soon to be orthodontist recommended this place. But we had some time to kill before the appointment. So we walked around and looked at a few shops. Time flew and we had to go already, but it started to drizzle. So we speed walked to the building. Once we got there, we had to fill out some forms. Then I went into this room. It had like a machine that takes a full 360° around my head. I also had to do one more like scan. So I sat in this chair and I went backward. Then the lady put this like light and scanned my teeth.

What was really cool was that you could see my teeth and what they look like. Once I was done, then we went back to Ala Moana. Prior to the appointment, I went into Hollister. While I was in the store, I saw this really cute mustard yellow T-shirt with like a cactus and the word Hollister. So I got that and then I decided to look in the clearance area to see if there was anything good and worth it. I found this long-sleeved shirt with like a tie-dye design. It was blue and like a light pink. After we went home we stayed for a couple of hours and then picked up my aunty. After she was picked up, we went to my cousin’s house. I was excited because I just saw her on Friday and now I get to see her again. We ate and played around for a least a good 4-5 hours. My weekend was so fun, I wish I could do this every time.

Monthly Posts – School is Almost Over

Hi everyone,

So school is almost over. We end on May 23, 2019, and we started on August 8, 2018. We will graduate in 2020. That’s in like two weeks. The eighth graders on their trip to Japan, and I wish I could go now and miss some school. But they come back right before school ends. This year went by so fast, it is kind of hard to picture the first day of school and now the last. This year wasn’t always the best. We had some ups and some downs, but I’m glad that at least we got past that. There are still some issues like I guess you would say segregation between the class. Whenever we are allowed to pick seats in class, the girls sit together on one side and the boys sit on the other side. But things are getting better.

I can’t believe that we are going to be in eighth grade and going into high school. I remember the first day of sixth grade and seventh grade. I feel that we should’ve been closer as a class because now I guess we are kind of doing it at the wrong time. School is ending and now we are become “one”. I think it’s kind of late but at least things are getting better. This year just raced by and I remember when the twins and Kailey would sit on the same table every day. When Jenny and I made a little world in a jar. It was in science class and we put dirt and plants and rocks. We had a big rock and we put it somewhere and we couldn’t find it the next day.

We have so many memories as a class, I wish we could restart and redo this past year. This year was fun because as seventh graders, we water the gardens. We take care of the gardens and well, we garden. Not too long ago like last month, we did our first gardening job. We signed up to do certain things around the garden. We help take care of the garden because it was sort of dying. We did an animal like donation last week. We were assigned a classroom and we gave them a poster to give them an idea on what they would like to donate. Then we picked the items up. All of the donations go to the Hawaiian Human Society. We have some donations and it feels great to donate to animals in need. This year was a memorable year and it was a blast.

Monthly Posts – Farmer’s Market

Hi everyone,

This past weekend was a three day weekend for me. We didn’t have school on Monday because it was Buddha Day. So I had something to do. But my favorite thing that I did over the three day weekend was going to Farmer’s Market. So on Saturday, I went to the farmer’s market right up the street from my house. It was a pretty hot day but it wasn’t too bad. So it was pretty early, around 8:10am when we got there. We just walked around to see what they had to offer, but we were mainly looking for lemons.

After looking around, we tried to find the lemons. Thank god we found them, they were some nice lemons though. Then we looked around some more. I wanted some lemonade to drink, and I found the stand. Where I got the lemonade was ‘Nalo made Lemonade (Waimanalo, HI). I first got their Orginal in a jar for $7. It was kind of expensive, but the jar was pretty big. Then I finished that and before we left, I got a refill for only $4. Instead of getting the same thing, I got strawberry lemonade. It was really good, it was on the sweeter side.

I also got this sausage that is like a milder version of portuguese sausage. I had it on a stick and it was good. I put a little bit of ketchup. Then I got a chocolate covered banana which was really good, but messy. It was really busy so I needed to be aware of my surroundings.  I am glad that I went because I haven’t been there for a while and it was a good day to go.

Monthly Posts – Movies with Friends

Hi everyone,

So last week, I went to the movies with some friends. I was with the twins, Jojo, and Mari. We asked Kailey if she could come but she couldn’t because she had practice, and then we asked Chloe, but she couldn’t come too. So it was just the 5 of us. We watched 5 Feet Apart. I think most of us started to cry or started to tear up. I was almost late so Mari’s mom waited for me to come, and then she left. So the twin’s mom watched the movie us. We got ICEE’S and popcorn. Mari secretly brought kakimochi. Then we went into the theater. We had reclining seats which were very nice and comfortable.

Then the movie started. It was a really good, interesting, exciting, and sad movie. If you didn’t watch the movie and want to watch it, you can skip this but one of the characters die, and it’s really sad. I think most of us cried during that part. I was like balling when that character died. Anyways, the movie was really good and I wish I stayed to the end. I had to leave early because I had a rehearsal for a celebration dance of life. So I had to leave during the movie to make the rehearsal at 2:00pm.

The reason why we watched the movie was because Mari said it was a good movie and everyone wanted to watch it. She explained what it was about and gave a little background information. Now I really wanted to watch it and I’m glad I did. So we planned to watch it that weekend to watch it together. We decided to watch it at Ward Theater.  I wish everyone was there because then we would have more fun together. But at least I got to watch the movie with some friends. I had a lot of fun and I hope we can do this again.

Monthly Posts – OPIHI Field Trip

Hi everyone,

This post I guess I would consider a part 2 to my other post POL. Anyways, today I will be explaining about OPIHI in more detail. This field trip was so much fun. We went to Sand Island Beach Park. Luckily, there weren’t strong waves, but there were small ones here and there. There 6 eighth graders and three teachers who went on the trip with us. Those eighth graders helped us collect data, help us identifying the algae, and they took pictures. Those pictures were for POL on Friday. They used i-pads and when we saw the slideshow, the pictures came pretty clear.

Anyways, back to the actual field trip, we were in a group of three. Those groups that we were in were also for a mock trial of this field trip. Our teacher made a mock trial to prepare us for what we are supposed to do on this field trip. When we got to Sand Island, we had to walk in the sand with shoes. It was hard to walk and sand got into our shoes which were kind of annoying. So when we found where we’re supposed to “camp out”, we set everything up. Then we measured the distance for each group. Once we were done my partner and I went out into the ocean while the other partner watched waves. We were supposed to go to knee-high, which we did.

Then we started to collect data. First, we were supposed to measure every 1 meter, and then find algae around that meter. Then I was to record what we think the type of algae is. It was a hot but nice day. Then when we finished that, we were to do the transect, where we measure so many half meters, then we put a square with wire that creates squares. Then we look through each square and record what we see. I almost feel twice, one getting down to the ocean and one losing my balance in the ocean. But I was okay. Since we were ahead, we were allowed to help the other groups who needed help. That’s when I got wetter since it was getting later in the morning, the tide got higher. Since it was getting higher, Jenny and I got our shorts wet. That was a really fun field trip and I wish I could do it again.

Monthly Posts – Presentation of Learning (POL)

Hi everyone,

So today was POL (Presentation of Learning). If you don’t know what that is, it’s just when each grade level chooses something to educate their parents about. So this year, as 7th graders, we did OPIHI. We just had a field trip about OPIHI. We were split into 6 teams, with 3 people in each. That group was to prepare for OPIHI and also for the field trip. It was fun because we went to Sand Island and did what we’re supposed to do. We went into the water to knee-high level and then we did the measurements and data collecting.

The groups that we’re in at the field trip was the groups that we were split into. We got to choose what we wanted to talk about for the presentation. We choose safety. It was pretty easy because there was a basket that was filled with things that we needed just in case someone got hurt or needed something. We just explained what these items were used and why they are important.

Every group had different things to talk about, so Jojos’ group needed help with their assignment. She was doing algae sample identification. So we had samples collected from Sand Island and her group was supposed to try to identify them. She needed help so I asked Mrs. W and she said it was okay to help them out. So after preparing for my group, the others did it while I helped present and identify Jojo’s group. So this time I was like in two groups. I think this would be my favorite year doing POL.

Monthly Posts – Two Types of People

Hey everyone,

The last post that I will be talking about is Two Types of People.

There are many types of people in the world, which is nothing wrong with. But I created a slideshow with questions with pictures and you choose which one you would either drink, eat, or choose. There are so many people out there in the world that have different opinions on what they like, so being able to see what others like and what you might have in common with them. So maybe you might have some things in common with other people that you never knew.

Some examples include:

  1. Cheese pizza or Pepperoni pizza
  2. Pepsi or Coke
  3. Bubbly water or Water
  4. Ketchup or Mustard

You can choose whichever item you like, and like I said, you might find something in common with other people and you never know. There are so many people in the world who have different opinions on eating the same food, which is totally fine. You just have another way of eating the same food. Some people also might choose Pepsi over Coke or Coke over Pepsi.

Monthly Posts – My Message

Hi everyone,

So the second post I will be talking about is My Message.

This is one of the posts that is an important one. So in that post, I talked about poverty. Now poverty is one of the most common things in the world. Poverty is sad and really disturbing. Poverty is almost everywhere around the world. People who are in poverty have been through a lot. They have little to no money. It’s just really sad because there are some people who are in poverty need help, but sometimes they aren’t given help. Also sometimes they have children, and it’s just so sad because they are just children.

Poverty is a topic that should be more talked about. I mean it talked about, but I think it should be more focused on. I just feel so sad and I am just so fortunate to be able to go to school and have food and water. Sometimes they don’t have the basic necessities that all humans need to survive. I wish sometimes that I could just give them money, food, and water. That way they can live somewhat a little more normally. Hopefully, they can get out poverty and live a better life.

I think this one of the topics that I feel proud because poverty is something that is a very important topic that is serious. I am very glad that there are some places that can help people get out of poverty. I think everyone should be very fortunate that they are able to go to school, have a house, food, and water. Not everyone is able to have everything that we have. Being grateful is always something to keep in mind because being grateful is key to a good life. \

Monthly Posts (3)

Hi everyone,

Like last month, I will be talking about 3 posts.

The first post I will be talking about is SBC Week 6: A-Z Science Words and Definitions. I think that this was one of the posts that involved science. In my opinion, I think we need to do more posts about science. Science is a cool subject that I would like to write, learn, and experience more often. I think that science is the subject of trial and error. There is a lot of things that I would learn like, why is the earth round, and how rockets work. I feel that science is important to learn more about. Science can be difficult and fun. Like I said, I think science is a trial and error.

The challenge was to create a list from A-Z with science words. Now keeping in mind 26 words. We had to find a word that starts with the letter. Like for S, you could put Saturn. So we would do the same thing for all of the letters. It was a long activity because we needed to find a word that starts with each of those letters. I learned some new words that I never knew until I did the activity. Then we had to write the definitions of each of those words. I also learned the words and the definitions of words that I didn’t know.

I really liked the challenge because I learned new words and what they mean. It was a long process, but I’m glad that I got to learn something new. I hope that there will be a challenge that have to do with science because I really liked the challenge. Science is something to learn that is important.

That’s all of today,
